Trade Turnover in the NIS/Foreign Currency Market

The trade turnover report is based on daily reports from the domestic banks, and takes into account only the NIS/foreign currency transactions made on the relevant day. The turnover report includes same day, spot, forward and swaps transactions.

The data are divided to the following sectors: foreign financial Institutions, domestic interbank, and other customers. The data are shown both including and excluding swaps.

Continuity of data: From July 1, 2008 the information is received via a new reporting system, and therefore there is a break in the series from that point.

Additional remarks:
1. Domestic interbank: commercial banks located in Israel, including branches in Israel of foreign banks.
2. Foreign financial institutions: commercial banks located abroad, including branches abroad of Israeli banks and foreign investment banks.
3. Other customers: individuals and firms that are not banks or foreign investment banks. Including subsidiaries and other institutions related to the reporting bank.
4. Swaps transactions: these include only one leg of the transaction (i.e., the nominal value of the deal), according to the definitions of foreign exchange turnover outlined by the Bank for International Settlements (BIS).
5. Transactions that are not in US dollars are calculated according to their US dollar value.
6. At this stage the data do not include options, but they will do so in the near future.
7. Bank of Israel transactions are reported in the other customers sector.
8. The data of the last trading day are not final.
